The description of Sunderland University by the former Education Secretary Estelle Morris as the "Oxbridge of new universities" has left others cold. Coming shortly after her appointment as pro vice-chancellor at Sunderland, Ms Morris's comments have prompted Bournemouth University instantly to drop the phrase, which it had used to describe itself.
