Michael Tendler, professor at the Alfven Laboratory of the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology and at the University of Montreal, will be presented with the Ernst Mach Prize and Medal of Honour in physics for 1999 on June 17. The prize is awarded by the Czech Academy of Sciences. Professor Tendler's pioneering research in plasma physics has increased the understanding of complex self-organising systems; his work has improved the practicality of fusion reactors.
