What a hoot to see you've introduced a new satirical column in THE ("Tenure - nirvana for the lazy", 18 March). Suresh Goyal's musings on the academy as nirvana had my colleagues and me howling with laughter.
His account of working in a job that is virtually recession-proof, with long holidays and only two hours of real work a week, made us chortle. And we could barely contain ourselves when we reached his wry observation that "believe me, I'm one of the hard workers". Hilarious! It's the way he tells 'em!
Next week, can we have something about overpaid lecturers or maybe the obscene crisis of university overfunding? Move over, Laurie Taylor!
