I fail to understand the disagreements about who should pay for the desperately needed increases in university funding. The relevant free-market principle is "he who pays benefits, he who benefits pays". The Government has made it abundantly clear that the purpose of the academy is to benefit business and commerce, so it is perfectly evident who should pay.
