Further to the article "REF could penalise those working across disciplines" (2 October), we wish to clarify that the study was conducted by Jonathan Levitt with the help of Mike Thelwall. The study, part of Levitt's doctoral research at Wolverhampton's Statistical Cybermetrics Research Group, has just been published in the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (Levitt, J.M. and Thelwall, M. Is multidisciplinary research more highly cited? A macro-level study, 2008, 59(12), 1973-1984).
Jonathan Levitt and Mike Thelwall, University of Wolverhampton.
