I read with interest your article on my motive for setting up INTO University Partnerships (News, 1 May). I would like briefly to clarify some points covered.
The article suggests we have concluded our negotiations with the University of Essex. Discussions are still under way. Our salary scales are agreed with our university partners. Some may be lower and some higher than similar university posts but all are competitive. Appraisals are conducted on an individual basis and, as a growing organisation, there are many opportunities for promotion.
Finally, the article understates the value of an INTO partnership by referring to it as an English-language provider. However, we provide pathway courses with academic content, quality-assured by the partner university and delivered in partnership with them.
Andrew Colin, Chairman, INTO University Partnerships.
