The story "Reform sparks pay scramble" (January 5) repeats yet again the falsehood that the 2004 pay framework agreement covers "all university staff - from porters to professors". The framework excludes professors and senior management, except to specify their minimum salary - and then only for the old, pre-92 universities. It would make for a more transparent and potentially fairer system if scale points were defined for all staff.
