Women seeking senior positions in medical schools are victims of discrimination, according to Joe Collier of St George's Hospital Medical School in this week's Lancet. The proportion of university-appointed female hospital consultants has remained static at 12 per cent since 1991, while the number employed directly by the NHS has risen from 16.5 per cent in 1991 to 19.4 per cent last year.
