Is it really necessary to use the coarse and gutter language found in one of your news stories ("Know your 'arse' from your 'hello'", November 11)? I thought The Times Higher was a quality newspaper. Is it necessary to gratuitously offend your readers?
Should you not be concerned with raising standards instead of seeking the lowest denominator in public and in private life?
