In the mid-Nineties you carried an article that sought to portray me as the world's unluckiest football fan.
Three of my allegiances, Bolton Wanderers (bottom of the Premiership), Luton Town (bottom of the first division) and Hull City (bottom of the second division) were all in serious trouble.
Your columnist even suggested that if my efforts to promote Bolton's application for a university title continued to prove difficult I might wish to start watching a team supported by the Secretary of State.
Just in case you missed it, I am happy to report that not only will Bolton Wanderers be playing in Europe for the first time next season, but both Luton Town and Hull City have just been promoted to the Championship.
I dare say it's pure coincidence that Bolton University was formally designated this year. Perhaps now would be an opportune time for my friends in Wigan (promoted to the Premiership) to start thinking about establishing a university.
