Dame Elizabeth Esteve-Coll (pictured right) is to take early retirement from her post as vice chancellor of University of East Anglia after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
She arrived in October of last year and will leave the university towards the end of 1997. She said: "It is with real sadness and disappointment that I must acknowledge that I am not able to lead the university into the 21st century."
