Helping the able to join the elite 4

It is the smug, well-established universities that deserve the epithet "Mickey Mouse" ("Do they deserve to be degrees?", THES , January 23).

In response to government pressure for change they failed to show any necessary link between research capacity and quality of teaching.

Now they are denigrating other courses and institutions to protect their privileges.
