Your headline "'Crazy Land' ponders big revamp for humanities" ( THES, March 28) is gratuitous and misleading. It suggests that Canada and/or the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada are somehow off their rocker. The article quotes SSHRC president Marc Renaud saying Canada is "this crazy land" when explaining the immense challenges posed by the country's vast geography.
Using this in the headline sets up a rather dismissive and cynical editorial slant to a story that otherwise deals with an important transformation of how social science and humanities researchers work, interact, are perceived and funded.
