The Welsh Assembly is committed to achieving a credit and qualifications framework embracing all post-16 and higher education by 2003 ("Changing courses is no problem", THES , October 18).
This involves intensive work and close collaboration with a range of bodies and organisations, including curriculum authorities and awarding bodies. The framework is being developed by Education and Learning Wales (ELWa), the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and the qualifications and curriculum authority for Wales (ACCAC). Support arrangements, such as management information and transcript systems, are also being devised.
ELWa is developing a credit-related approach for funding post-16 education and training. The HEFCW already uses a credit-related approach to funding full and part-time HE provision.
ELWa is working with other credit groups and consortia in the UK to achieve commonality between credit developments.
