Andrew Morgan's contention (Letters, THES , July 12) that those who mark "without reference to an agreed assessment scheme simply do not know what their job is" ignores that such schemes can be conceived only in generalities. Personal judgement is inescapable. The claim that schemes can be designed to guarantee purely objectivised judgement is just another attack on teacher autonomy.
