Developing countries and the agencies that work with them are ignoring a huge source of expert help: academics who have recently retired and who would be delighted to be involved in teaching, research projects, course design, student affairs, administrative procedures and many other fields (Opinion, THES , March 22). Many would be prepared to travel, perhaps in return for basic accommodation. Is there no organisation that might take advantage of all these skills going to waste?
