Alumnus to be proud of no. 83 is the Hon Tim Lamb, chief executive of the new England and Wales Cricket Board, who with chairman Lord MacLaurin issued a "private warning" to England cricket coach David Lloyd after an incident following the First Test in Zimbabwe. So private in fact, that it made the headlines in a series of radio news bulletins and Lord MacLaurin was interviewed on the BBC.

Goodness knows what will happen if they ever decide they want something publicised. Still, no harm done as the Hon Tim - described during his playing days as the slowest fast bowler in county cricket - was merely doing what is expected of a scion of Shrewsbury School and Queen's College, Oxford when an oik from the lower orders, in this case Accrington Grammar School, steps out of line.
