Two higher education unions with a combined strength of more than 40,000 are due to merge later this year. The Association of University and College Lecturers is looking to merge officially with the Association of University Teachers on September 1. A draft merger agreement is to be deposited with the trade unions certification officer for approval in early February. If granted then the AUCL will ballot its members over the summer.
