Gary Craig writes that "the British government's attitude towards immigration is profoundly racist", asserting that it treats professional people better than refugees and asylum-seekers (Letters, THES, November 24). This unjustifiably assumes that professional people are of a different race (or different races) from refugees and asylum-seekers and that refugees and asylum-seekers are never professional people.
