Alumna to be proud of No 93 is Baroness Denton, the junior Northern Ireland minister under fire for allegedly flouting the province's fair employment rules and condoning sectarianism in her private office.

This follows an incident in one of her earlier ministerial appointments when she said that she had never knowingly appointed a Labour supporter to a quango - not a problem in the province, where Labour still refuses to organise. Most mini-biographies of the noble Baroness tend to concentrate on a colourful motorracing past, but make rather less of a degree from the London School of Economics. Judge for yourself which induced a wariness of giving jobs to those adjudged politically unreliable.
