THE Association of University Teachers is encouraging local branches to hold talks with employers in an attempt to secure in-house agreements on workloads. The union, concerned at the amount of hours its members have to work, says it will help branches that wish to open negotiations. The European Union directive on working time lays down a legal right for public sector employees not to have to work more than 48 hours a week.
