Many colleges and universities offer students the facility to submit their work for an authenticity report based on matches with internet and published sources as recorded in the Turnitin database (“We can write it for you wholesale”, 10 October). This facility is very popular with students, but the reason is not obvious.
Are some submitting the essay they bought to make sure it is unique, as promised by the essay mill from which it was purchased?
