The Higher Education Statistics Agency's findings for 1995/6 reveal that: * 54.4 per cent of first degree qualifiers who gained a first class honours degree were men.
* 64.3 per cent of first degree qualifiers who gained a third class honours degree were men
The total number of qualifiers grew by 7.5 per cent (29,003) between 1994/95 and 1995/96.
