SURREY University has launched its new Institute of Social Research, applying state-of-the-art research methods to problems in contemporary society. The institute, which opened last month, will provide a consultancy service undertaking funded research projects looking at areas such as health, crime, the environment, religion and the voluntary sector.
Research produced has already questioned the negative view of pensioners as a drain on society's resources. It shows that in caring for other older people and children they actually carry out a great deal of beneficial voluntary social work.
