Trainee lawyers' pay minimum may be scrapped

Young lawyers and small law firms are locked in a row over pay which could see the minimum salary for solicitors scrapped. Legal firms consulted by the Law Society earlier this year favoured an end to the minimum wage for trainees, which has been in place for ten years and now stands at Pounds 12,150 in London and Pounds 10,850 outside. But a meeting of the Law Society's training committee last week voted for it to stay. The issue must now go before the society's main council, which meets in June.
