Laurie Taylor’s Which?-style review of Professor Lapping (20 February) reprises his 1980s response to a call by Lord Joseph for an academic equivalent to Which?. At that time in Taylor’s column, the three models tested were the Lapping, the Piercemüller and the All‑Purpose Maureen. The recommended buy was the All‑Purpose Maureen as she didn’t emit the moaning sound that characterised the others when they were required to deal with anything above the average workload.
