Features section
Our features are written by academics and university staff and also by our in-house team of specialist reporters. We are looking for lively essays about higher education and academic life. If you have an idea for a feature, please email a short summary of your proposal to THE.Submissions@timeshighereducation.com. Many of our features and opinion articles are commissioned by Times Higher Education editors (i.e. they are written to an agreed brief). However, we are also happy to consider completed articles. If you would like to send us a completed article, please email it to the submissions address together with a summary of up to 200 words. Submissions will not be considered without a summary.
The length of each feature is decided by the Features Editor. However, as a rough guide, our features are usually 1,500-2,500 words.
Opinion section
Articles for our opinion section are written by academics, university staff, policymakers and other contributors. Opinion articles set out a concise argument on a topical issue related to higher education or academic life. If you have an idea for an opinion article, please send your suggestion to THE.Submissions@timeshighereducation.com. Opinion articles are usually 750 words long.
Accepted articles
If your feature or opinion article is accepted for publication, you will have an opportunity to check a proof of the article and to submit corrections prior to publication.
Times Higher Education pays authors for work published in the magazine.
Please note that we are a news magazine, not an academic journal. Opinion articles and features for the publication are written in a fairly informal style - and we do not publish footnotes.
We can only consider an article if the article (or a similar feature/comment piece on the same topic by the same author) has not been published anywhere else, including in a newspaper, another magazine, online, in a blog or in a university magazine.
