No easy landing for jet set

September 11, 2014

It appears that freshers with a spare £25,000 can spend it “on a private jet to arrive at university” (The Week in Higher Education, 4 September). I assume that those landing at the University of Oxford will still have to obey the edict, as laid down in the Memorandum on the Conduct and Discipline of Junior Members of the University (1947), to the effect that “Undergraduates may not keep a private aeroplane within 20 miles of Oxford without Proctorial permission”.
