THE CIVIL Aviation Authority is funding Aberdeen University research into how airline pilots behave in a team. All UK airline pilots are now being trained to improve the skills needed to work together as safe and efficient flight deck crews, such as leadership, communication and problem solving. Aberdeen's new professor of applied psychology, Rhona Flin, will work with Lynne Martin on the one-year study, which will include a survey of major airlines to see how these skills are identified and measured during training and assessment in both European and American airlines.
