The DFEE was due to announce a rationalisation of the exam boards this week. Labour in opposition favoured replacing the six A-level boards with a single, national body to guarantee parity between different syllabuses and exams after a series of marking scandals earlier this year. It has now opted for three bodies, each dealing with vocational and academic qualifications.
