Call for key skills in university entrance tests

THE GOVERNMENT should impose key skills exams on universities, Roger Murphy, Nottingham University education faculty dean and author of a Government-commissioned report, suggested this week. Universities' entrance requirements should also include a key skills element. The study, The Key Skills of Students Entering Higher Education, found that fewer than one in five undergraduate students achieved satisfactory levels when tested in the key skills of communication, application of number and information technology.
