British Council rubbishes Indian court order

August 8, 1997

THE BRITISH Council has dismissed a court order to restrict British institutions' work in India as "paranoid" and "misinformed".

The Madras High Court has asked Leeds University, Durham University and the University of Northumbria to explain why their operations in India should not be stopped. Dominic Scott, the British Council's head of education promotions, said the order was based on inaccurate information.
