THE BRITISH Council has dismissed a court order to restrict British institutions' work in India as "paranoid" and "misinformed".
The Madras High Court has asked Leeds University, Durham University and the University of Northumbria to explain why their operations in India should not be stopped. The order followed a public interest petition filed by a Madras resident, who claimed India's education system would be "destroyed" if the activities of foreign universities went unchecked. But Leeds University has pointed out that it does not run courses in India.
Dominic Scott, the British Council's head of education promotions, said the order was based on inaccurate information.
