THE University of Wales Bangor this week launched its Institute of Medical and Social Care Research, which is likely to coordinate Bangor's dementia action research programme, writes Iola Smith.
The institute will link the university with the North East Wales Institute, the University of Wales College of Medicine and health trusts in north Wales, to obtain funding for health and social care research. It will also develop Bangor's studies into the psychological and social effects of ageing.
The directors plan a joint programme with the hospital Ysbyty Gwynedd, to assess exercise for rheumatoid arthritis patients, and establish whether it can stimulate hormone levels and enhance bone and muscle development.
