Arts schools open doors to schools

The London Institute will get Pounds 350,000 of National Lottery money for its Young at Art project linking its five art colleges to local schools and colleges. Camberwell College of Arts plans to offer summer schools in conservation, ceramics, metalwork, printmaking and history of art for 14 to 18-year-olds. Life drawing classes for up to 100 pupils and their teachers are also planned.

Central St Martins' College of Art and Design will offer vacation courses in design. On one, design for performance, students will collaborate with graduates and local theatre groups such as Central School of Ballet and Unicorn Theatre. The grant is one of 79 made by the Arts Council last week in a Pounds 9 million bonanza.
