China to train managers in Britain

China is to send more students to British universities for training as part of efforts to foster science and technology development and management reforms in the country's state-owned enterprises.

The plans were announced at a recent two-day Sino-British seminar in Dalian, Liaoning Province, by Zhou Huiming, deputy director of the International Training Department with the State Bureau of Foreign Experts.

The event continues a wide-ranging exchange of information between the China Association for International Exchange of Personnel and British universities, which began with a meeting in Chongqing last January.

Talks are expected to lead to the training of personnel from state-owned enterprises in the industrial northeast of the country.

Discussions involve provincial officials from Jilin, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Shandong and a British delegation made of representatives from the cultural and educational section of the British Embassy and the Department of Trade and Industry.

Eight British universities were represented including Oxford, the London School of Economics and the University of Sheffield.
