Shutdown threat as students vote in fees protest

January 16, 1998

STUDENTS are to vote on a national shutdown of further and higher education this term in protest against tuition fees. Ballot forms have been sent out for completion by the end of January. Academic trade unions are being asked for their support. Also planned are a day of action on February 13, dubbed "Friday 13th - Nightmare on Campus", and a national referendum of students on fees.
