Baroness Blackstone, higher education minister, told the House of Commons science and technology select committee this week that she was "optimistic" that the comprehensive spending review would provide further money for univerisities. She also said that it made sense for a "substantial part" of the money realised from tuition fees to go back to universities.
She stressed the importance of additional money for research and said she would fight any attempts to do away with dual support as it was the most sensible way of allocating funds for research.
