Investigators from Glasgow University, Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Cork and Leiden Universities are starting the first study of the effects of pravastin, a medication widely prescribed to prevent heart attacks in people aged 70 and over. The study, being led by James Shepherd, Glasgow University's professor of pathological biochemistry, will enrol 5,500 patients from the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands.
