The higher Education Statistics Agency's findings for 1995/96 reveal that: Of first-degree language graduates who went to work:

* 28 per cent went into clerical and secretarial occupations

* 24.2 per cent went into management and administration

* 0.8 per cent became plant and machinery operatives
