City University has appointed David Rhind, director general and chief executive of the Ordnance Survey, as its vice-chancellor. He will replace Raoul Franklin, the longest-serving vice-chancellor, on September 1. Professor Rhind was professor of geography at Birkbeck College, London, before going to the Ordnance Survey in 1992.
