In the THES survey of vice-chancellors' pay (February 6) the amount of Pounds 83,000 shown under the entry for Queen Margaret College includes both Joan Stringer's remuneration from her appointment in November 4 1996 and that of her predecessor, Donald Leach.

In the THES table showing percentage change in applications to individual universities last year (February 13) the -12 per cent figure quoted for Liverpool John Moores University should be -6.7 per cent.

In 1997, the university processed all applications for the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, which now processes its own applications.
