LLD: Mary McAleese, president of Ireland, former director of the institute of professional legal studies and pro vice-chancellor of the university; Gordon Beveridge, vice-chancellor of the university (1986-97) and former professor of chemical and process engineering; Martin Naughton, group executive chairman of the Glen Dimplex Group, patron of the Martin Naughton chair of business strategy.

DScEng: James McWha, chief engineer with the Boeing Company in Seattle for flight systems; Hew Hioen On, head of the school of technology, Tunku Abdul Rahman College, Kuala Lumpur.

DSSc: Charles Handy, social philosophy and management consultant, professor at London Business School (1972-77); Indrani Manuel, former Catholic school principal, Malaysia.
