Chairs

University College of St Martin, Lancaster

The following have been appointed to chairs: Colin Richards, former visiting professor at the University of Newcastle and HMI for Ofsted; Mike Walsh, former senior lecturer in nursing at Bristol Polytechnic, professor of nursing development.

University of Southampton

Takis Tridimas, fellow of law at St John's College, Cambridge, has been appointed professor of European community law.

University of Bath

John Pickering, former professor of industrial economics at UMIST, has been appointed professor of business strategy.

Imperial College

J. Nicholson has accepted appointment to the chair of biological chemistry in the biomedical sciences division of the university's South Kensington Campus.

The following have been appointed to visiting professorships: D. James, former manager of geological research at KSEPL in the Netherlands, for three years from December 1, 1997; P. Lane, department of civil engineering, has had his appointment extended to September 30, 1999.
