Commonwealth Scholarship Commission
International development secretary, Clare Short, has appointed four new members to the commission: Trudy Harpham, professor of urban development at South Bank University; John Pendry, professor in the department of physics, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine; J. Dilawari, professor, consultant physician and gastroenterologist, Inverclyde Royal Hospital; William Hill, professor of animal genetics and head of division of biological sciences, University of Edinburgh.
Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology
Elected to the parliamentary board: Chairman - Ian Gibson, MP for Norwich North, former dean of biology at the University of East Anglia, member of the House of Commons science and technology committee; Vice-chairman - Brian Flowers, life peer, former chairman of the Science Research Council, the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution and House of Lords select committee on science and technology.
Director - David Cope, director of the UK centre for economic and environmental development and visiting professor at the University of Kyoto, will succeed Michael Norton.
