Themes for the next round of the United Kingdom Foresight programme, scheduled for launch in April 1999, could include the ageing population, cities of the future, crime control and social cohesion. The themes have been identified by the Office of Science and Technology after wide-ranging consultations on the future of the programme. Other themes highlighted so far are education, skills and training and sustainable development. The OST believes a thematic approach to the next round "could be really visionary".
