The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council this week gave Pounds 2.6 million for its first two collaborative centres for structural biology at the University of York, and jointly at University College, London and Birkbeck College. The two new units will act as regional centres to which academics from neighbouring universities and research institutes, as well as industry, can come for technical expertise and state-of-the art facilities for investigating the structure and function of biological molecules.
