The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council has commissioned an accreditation scheme specifically for its research supervisors, writes Alison Utley.
David Baume, of the centre for higher education practice at the Open University, will devise the framework. He said it had always been assumed that anyone with research expertise could not only teach but supervise research.
Pilot courses are being tried at a small number of BBSRC sites as the standard is developed under the auspices of the Staff Educational Development Association.
