OXFORD University will open an American Institute for research into United States history, government and politics in a global context. Work on the Pounds 10 million building will begin in July. The institute will consolidate the university's teaching and research related to American studies and provide a base for specialist scholars. The Rothermere Foundation donated Pounds 2 million to fund the library, the Rhodes Trust Pounds 4 million, and the Annenberg Foundation the rest. The university has raised Pounds 3 million for the academic programme.
