While politicians operate on the oxygen of publicity our Alumnus to be proud of No 173, foreign office Africa minister Tony Lloyd, could be forgiven for wishing that comment by a leading Africa-watcher still held true. Perhaps he could plead that earning degrees from Nottingham University and Manchester Business School and lecturing (1979-83) in economics, statistics and business at Salford University left him little time to be aware of Sierra Leone.
