Hell's bells

Alarm bells were ringing at the Association of University Teachers' west London headquarters this week. Ringing phones, however, are less likely to be heard. The AUT's imminent move to Tavistock Square to become neighbours of the vice-chancellors is being severely hampered by Cable and Wireless, which is unable to issue a new phone number until three weeks before the move.
